For those who would like to become an owner but feel that full ownership of a Racing Greyhound is too much of a financial commitment, becoming a member of one of the Richards Racing syndicates is a much cheaper option. Costs are split between all syndicate members, so there is no huge cost to any individual.

The majority of our syndicates have 10 "shares". Each share will usually belong to one person, but if someone wishes to buy more than 1 share they are more than welcome.

So, what does the share cost cover?

1. Initial purchase cost

We have several contacts in Ireland we normally purchase greyhounds from at competitive prices. As with all purchases, the better class of greyhound we purchase, the more the initial cost is likely to be and therefore the higher the syndicate share price.



2. Transport costs

We use a number of transporters who bring greyhounds over from Ireland in air-conditioned transporters. There are also transporters who will bring a greyhound from elsewhere within the UK if we don't purchase from Ireland.



3. GBGB registration fees

If a greyhound needs is not already registered to race in the UK (which will be the case for Irish dogs), there is a charge to register them with the GBGB. These fees are not excessive (currently £39 to register/change ownership), although things such as a name change will add to the cost.



4. Initial check-up

Because we want to minimise the risk to our owners, all new greyhounds are checked over to identify possible injuries before we give them their first trial at Monmore. This will either be be taking them to a greyhound Vet or by someone we have who visits the kennel regularly.

6. Emergency fund

Greyhounds sometimes get injured , which in the worst cases can incur fairly expensive Veterinary costs. In order to try to cover these costs we like to have an "Emergency fund" in place. This is built in 2 ways. Firstly we include a total cost of £500 which is divided equally among the shareholders when buying the shares. Secondly, we deduct 25% of any prize money earned by the greyhound until the emergency fund reaches £1,000.

The monthly kennel fees include minor veterinary costs. However, any major costs will be taken from the emergency fund and 25% of any future prize money earned by the greyhound will be deducted from prize money payouts until the emergency fund returns to £1,000.

Please note: On retirement, if the Emergency fund is not needed to treat an injury the greyhound has suffered during racing, the money remaining in the fund will be returned to shareholders, divided equally.



7. Extras

All greyhounds are wormed when arriving at the kennels. We also give season suppressants to bitches.

As with all hobbies there are financial costs and indeed the ownership of all animals there are certain moral and financial obligations and for some this a burden they don’t wish to tackle on their own. The costs (although relatively small) and the responsibilty is very often exceeds the magnitude of their resources, and the magnitude of their involvement.

As well as reducing responsibilty and costs, syndicates offer the opportunity for members to meet new people that share interests and to build friendships that can last a lifetime.

Being the member of a Syndicate or a Racing Club can mean as little or as much as you wish! You are entitled to the same privileges as sole Ownership but can be part of a group that want the same thing …. To enjoy owning a racing phenomenon!! We currently have Greyhounds owned in syndication, CASUAL GENTS & SUAVE RACING to name two, and all our groups are thriving!
